The Golf Club of Georgia
About the club
The Lakeside Arthur Hills designed the two courses at The Golf Club of Georgia, a big, members-only facility just outside Atlanta. The lovely grounds are replete with nice changes in elevation, streams, ponds, marshlands and evergreen and hardwood trees. The Lakeside was the first course (the other being the Creekside), and it begins with a nine that works through forested land and over streams. Beginning with the 11th—a par 5 named by Golf Digest as one of the top 99 holes in the US—the routing makes its way along a large pond before returning to the trees with the 14th. Challenges include water carries and tough greenside bunkers. The bentgrass greens themselves are contoured and quite quick. Now in its third decade, The Golf Club has made a name for itself as a tournament venue, in particular for the battle between the American and English amateur champs known as the Georgia Cup.
