Ocean Forest Golf Club

About the club

The Ocean Forest is a private course contained within the Sea Island resort on the Georgia coast—you have to go through a second security gate once you are on the grounds of the resort—and though only a couple decades old, it is recognized as being in the same league with the nearby Seaside layout by Harry Colt. The grounds are thickly forested wetlands, and the routing makes the most of the native landscape. The club was launched by Bill Jones III, who enlisted Rees Jones to design the course, which debuted in 1995. The Walker Cup was played here in 2001, and Great Britain & Ireland emerged victorious, something that team has managed to do on only one other US course. Every hole is distinct and visually attractive. Jones's layout has the classic feel of holes that emerge naturally right out of the ground it is planted on.
