The Ford Field & River Club

About the club

The Ford Field & River Club was developed on the historic winter estate of Henry Ford, who purchased the property in the early 1920s and named it Richmond Hill. After the Fords' deaths, the land changed ownership several times and eventually became the personal estate of a Saudi Arabian businessman, who built a private, world-class golf course designed by Pete Dye. In 1998, the estate was purchased by Sterling Bluff Associates, a private investor group that developed the current Ford Field & River Club. The 1,800-acre estate is now a private residential and sporting community. The property encompasses historic elements including storied land and waterways set along Georgia's great Ogeechee River and features both residential and recreational amenities. The front nine features moss-draped oaks, strip bunkers, bulkheaded water features, moguls and hollows surrounding small greens, characteristic of Dye's southeastern courses. The back nine circles over an open isthmus of land projecting into the Ogeechee River, with notable holes including the 10th (drive and pitch with green set against the water), the par-4 14th (bunkerless elevated green), and a 5-3-4 finish toward the large antebellum clubhouse.
