I was a golf caddy at Shoreacres back in 1963 and 1964 when I was 13 and 14 years old. Dad was in the Navy and we were just a fence away from the Mansions and golf course. I'd usually walk down to the lake and up the beach and then climb the bluff to get there. Caddy master was John Lupiano and I'd always check in with him the same way, "I need a Loop Lupiano...". Back then they paid $3.50 a bag and with a double in the morning and the afternoon and tips... I'd go home with close to $20. I'd learned to play golf as a kid on Guam, so I was the one caddy that actually knew something about the game. The best part...the course was closed on Monday and I was allowed to play for free. Beautiful course and positive memories about everything. Remember carrying a bag for a Maharaja with gold plated clubs and a good swing. I clubbed him around the course to a subpar round as I recollect and looking forward to a special tip. Ended up with $3.50...Still a good memory.

Shoreacres is an incredibly beautiful Seth Rayner design. this course does not get you with length, but rather crazy run offs into bunkers and off of greens. You've got the signature Redan and Biarritz greens here, you've got wonderful ravines running through, and it is a great example of how to incorporate a golf course into a beautiful piece of nature. the whole idea, in my opinion, is to drop a golf course onto the land and let it drape perfectly over it. This is what Seth Rayner has done with Shoreacres!

I came to here to see an eclipse. The sun was rising while part of it was blocked by the moon. Awesome!
