Recently attended a wedding reception there (and to be clear, anything critical below is not the fault of the wedding planners). Beautiful outdoor setting along the water. Well maintained grounds. Nice start with appetizers on the lawn and an outdoor bar. Music was lively. Great friendly and attentive service. Would have liked more shaded seating and/or perhaps cooling misters/fans to offset the 90+ degree heat. Would have also appreciated a few self-service iced water dispensers at the bars as three bartenders were not enough to handle the crowd (it would take ten minutes or more just to get a glass of water). BTW: Do not order mojitos there. Their version is a little rum over ice with a sprig of mint. Nothing muddled, nothing sweet. A simple "we can't do mojitos" wouldn't have been as disappointing. Indoors felt a walk back in time to the 70s--furniture, carpets, decor and sometimes the stale smell. Cushioning/support needs to be updated, I think. Also odd to smell a wood burning fire aroma in the dead of summer heat. Again staff, very helpful and attentive. Dinner was fine though portion sizes especially for airline chicken seemed on the small side. Steak was cooked perfectly. But for future references, the carrots need far more cookery skills (barely cooked, bland and visually unappealing). After dinner music and dancing: I've been to many lakeside and oceanside receptions and am accustomed to lake flies, mayflies, spiders, mosquitoes and the like, but easily available amenities would have been appreciated. For example-- fans/misters (for the bar and dance floor), bug spray, bug repellent lights, mosquito traps (like those used on golf courses). The bartenders were kind enough to lend their own bug repellant spray--much appreciated. Between the heat and the bugs though, they were miserable. And it often times showed in their work. Mayflies aside (and yes I realize they surge in certain months), you have an insect problem. Counters at the bar were laid to waste with the bodies of small fallen flies with no effort to wipe them up. Ice was served with small gnats so drinks came with multiple floating corpses and a resigned "there's nothing much to do about that" except offer a straw to draw off the bottom of the glass (??!!! --still aghast at the audacity). An easy fix would have been to offer a drink from inside but they weren't able to come up with that one (which I got later in the evening from a very kind young woman). A more long-term fix needs to come from those in charge of bug control, environmental conditions, and guest experience there. A country club of this purported reputation should do better for their guests--no matter the season.

Left the Grosse point yacht club after years of downhill quality in just about every aspect… couldn’t be happier here… A1 quality club in every aspect. Intimate atmosphere, wonderful world class chef, beautiful and classy club and harbor… what more could you ask for?
