Knickerbocker Club
About the club
Founded in 1871 by members who found the Union Club "too democratic." The Knickerbocker Club is the most socially conservative men's club in New York — the inner sanctum of the Social Register set. Its Stanford White townhouse on Fifth Avenue at 62nd Street is one of the finest private club buildings in America. The membership descends from the families who founded New York — Livingston, Stuyvesant, Beekman, and Van Cortlandt — and those who became the city's industrial aristocracy. Admission is by introduction only with waiting lists of many years.
