The Metropolitan Club New York
About the club
Founded in 1891 by J.P. Morgan — infamously, after a friend was denied membership at the Union Club. The McKim, Mead & White building on Fifth Avenue and 60th Street is considered the finest private club building in the United States. Morgan assembled 75 of the most powerful men in America as founding members and created what became the most architecturally magnificent club in the country. The beaux-arts Ogden Codman dining rooms and the grand ballroom are among New York's greatest interior spaces.
