Beautiful by the harbor Views galore

I want to start by clarifying something: the positive rating is actually for Morgan Park, not the Glen Cove Yacht Club. Don’t be confused, the club’s parking lot is on public property, so people often park there to watch the sunset or walk into the park, which truly is beautiful. As for the Yacht Club itself, I strongly caution anyone considering membership. My husband, myself, and other family members joined in the summer of 2023. It quickly turned into a negative experience, centered around one committee member who creates constant conflict. We gave the club another chance the following season but ultimately left after they ruined our sailing season. First, their launch service has the worse schedule, they don’t run them daily and they start late in the day when it’s almost too late to take your boat out. The ONLY POSITIVE is the young men and ladies that drive the launch, they’re hardworking, respectful, well mannered kids who do a great job. The real problem is one individual who acts like he runs the entire place. For example, after we took our boat for a night sail, he told us he’d call the Coast Guard and report it missing if we weren’t back by a certain time. He also harassed us repeatedly over an initiation fee. At first, a board member told us it wouldn’t apply since at least one of our family boats was returning. Then this same individual insisted we did owe it. To “make nice,” they discounted $70. It took over three weeks for them to tell us what we actually owed, and there was never an invoice or clear instructions on how to pay. Left uninformed we mailed a check to the club’s physical address, unaware they required a PO Box. Instead of checking the post office, this individual repeatedly cornered our family in the parking lot, demanding cash be dropped off. On the 4th of July, he even berated my husband in front of other members, our guests and children, and told us we couldn’t use the launch, despite our membership fee being fully paid. Rumor has it this individual has been pushed out, however, it’s still managed by people who lack basic business acumen, common courtesy, and respect for the very members who keep it afloat. In contrast, nearby clubs offer far better amenities, run more reliable launch schedules, and, most importantly, treat their members with fairness and respect. Save yourself the frustration and join one of those instead.
