James Island Yacht Club is the kind of place that makes you smile the moment you arrive—and not because of gleaming yachts (you won’t find any). This is a proudly laid-back, no-frills spot where the vibe is relaxed, the people are friendly, and nobody’s trying to impress anyone. The drinks are cheap, the pours are honest, and the atmosphere feels more like a waterfront hangout than a “club.” The large campus right on the water gives you plenty of space to spread out, kick back, and actually enjoy being there. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day, swap stories, and watch the boats come and go. And if you do have a boat, it gets even better. You can put it in right there and store it on site, which turns a good hang into an all-day lifestyle perk. James Island Yacht Club isn’t about luxury—it’s about fun, comfort, and community. No yachts required.

James Island Yacht Club offers a welcoming coastal setting with beautiful views, a relaxed atmosphere, and well-maintained facilities. Members appreciate the friendly community, great boating access, and fun events throughout the year. Whether enjoying the water or gathering with friends, it’s a charming spot with true Lowcountry appeal.

Beautiful setting with a great junior sailing program!

This is a beautiful place. The dock is built to what seems like cruise line specks, very heavy and very sturdy. From your right you can see Mt. Pleasant, on the left is downtown Charleston with the Arthur Ravenel bridge in the middle. This is one of the best sceneries I’ve seen in a long time.

Women are involved in the club but banned from membership which seems a bit antiquated. Otherwise a great place to sail.
