Blair Atholl
About the club
Blair Atholl takes its name from the Scottish Dukes of Atholl, who had an estate on this site near Johannesburg. Just after World War II, the property was purchased by the Douglas family. Patriarch Rod Douglas was knighted by George VI shortly thereafter, and the king the next year visited the grounds and as was his custom planted an English oak there. Most recently, when the Blair Atholl estate went up for sale during the Eighties, native golf phenomenon Gary Player decided to make it his home base and set up his residence, his quarter horse operation and naturally a first-class golf course. With an abundance of space available, Player was able to create a layout that can play over 7300 meters. Each hole is distinct and perfectly suited to the terrain in which it was built; one of the standouts is a fantastic recreation of Augusta's famous 12th.
