Dogwood Hills Golf Club

About the club

Located near the northern tip of Sand Mountain in Jackson County, this course is an easy drive from cities throughout the tri-state area. The excellent layout will prove challenging enough for the accomplished golfer from the Gold Tees at 6670 yards, and fun for the average golfer from the Blue at 6297 yards or White at 5940 yards. The course features magnificent bent grass greens, well-maintained fairways and tee boxes, plus plenty of sand bunkers and water hazards. There are also practice greens and a driving range. The clubhouse and dining area are large enough to easily handle tournaments and large group outings. Dogwood Hills Golf Resort and Gardens is conveniently located just off Interstate 59, 25 minutes south of Chattanooga. The course was designed and built by owner, Bryce Slater. Doris still runs the course today… and if you’re fortunate enough to live in Northeast Alabama, Northwest Georgia or in the Chattanooga area, it belongs on your “A” list of Places to Play. As you turn off Highway 71, it’s clear that this is an unusual property. The one-lane, paved road back to the club house is about a quarter mile long, and feels more like a family driveway than the entry to a golf course. Doris’s touch is immediately evident, with garden areas dotted here and there, and more being installed all the time. Bryce’s work is obvious once you step onto the course. Not only did he design the course, but he cleared it himself and managed the entire construction project. Before the front nine opened, he even grew tomatoes in the fairways to help finance the operation. Before Bryce’s passing, he and Doris, both retired educators, had made arrangements to donate the golf course, clubhouse and 4 resort cabins to Northeast Alabama Community College Foundation.
