The Saguaro at We-Ko-Pa

The Saguaro Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore really outdid themselves with their Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa, a facility located outside of Scottsdale, Arizona, on land belonging to the Yavapai (formerly Mohave and Apache) Nation. The rolling desert setting is superb, being unmarred by construction and featuring plenty of the iconic desert plants after which the course its name along with plenty of other flora and fauna. Among the design team's signature touches here are the generous fairways and greens set with tricky bunkers, the nice mix of shorter and more lengthy par 3s and 4s, and par 5s that offer challenging profit and loss scenarios. Greens can be quite tricky; a number of them appear to be level but break in unexpected ways. The desert breeze can kick up here, and when it does players will need to shape their shots close to the ground as if on a links.
