About the club
Rod Laver put Rockhampton, Queensland on the map nearly 50 years ago when, as the greatest tennis player of his day, he traveled the world under the nickname "the Rockhampton Rocket." The Capricorn Resort is 45 minutes outside Rockhampton near the coast, though the shoreline does not figure in the golfing, since the two courses thread their way through the melaleuca bush-land. Peter Thomson first established the Resort Course, which, at 6111 meters, offers the gentle, fun play that its name implies. The Championship Course is for sterner competition; designed by American Karl Litten six years after Thomson's work, it could host a top-class amateur or professional tournament. Length and bunkering are its main strengths. The course makes a gentle impact on its surroundings, and the melaleuca trees on both sides of most holes on the back nine, with its adjacent marshland, remain well back from the line of play.
