About the club
This course, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones II in 1988, is now being renovated to accommodate new housing, and several holes alongside the ocean now complement the more park-like originals. The primordial rock of Mt Coolum overlooks the entire course - those seeking strenuous exercise are welcome to climb it - and the inland holes move through groves of native vegetation and eucalyptus. Having been developed as an in-and-out resort, this is a tough course with trees right up to the edge of many fairways and greens, putting accuracy at a premium. Despite its relatively brief existence, Coolum has hosted the Australian PGA Championship for a number of years. The final few holes are especially demanding, with the approach to 18 being entirely across water and making for a thrilling conclusion to more than one playoff. This course is a serious test for the professionals, and fun and playable for all.
