The iconic Royal Sydney club and course is located in Rose Bay, a bedroom community near Sydney Harbour. It is the city's best club, at which only members and guests may play. The majority of the holes are oriented from north to south, for which reason they are exposed to the constantly shifting winds. This ample course reveals unexpected features and quirks that keep players coming back for more. The shots are fair, but the frequently raised greens partially obscure the view from the fairway to the putting surface, and an array of bunkers defends them. It is tempting to drive, but careful positioning is required if the approaches are not to be tricky. The course and the huge "country club" style clubhouse are simply outstanding, as is clear from the fact that the Australian Open has taken place here no less than eleven times.
