About the club
The Yarra Yarra is one more of Melbourne's storied Sandbelt courses, and while it is among the most exclusive in Australia, the club, with its gorgeous listed clubhouse, is all the same quite friendly. Early Australian champ Alex Russell collaborated with Alister MacKenzie to design a splendid course that has been the site of many Australian PGA tournaments in addition to the Women's Australian Open in 2002. The 6102-meter length is rather modest, but this in no way detracts from the quality of the golf. The 1st hole is a tricky par 3 that measures two hundred meters and culminates in a green with bunkers on either side. The relatively short length of this hole demonstrates Russell's commitment to letting hole placement be determined by the terrain. The bunkers throughout the course attest MacKenzie's role. This course offers wonderfully scenic flora, and it challenges players without disheartening them.
