About the club
For a Caribbean island, Barbados enjoys -if that is the right word - generous rainfall that keeps its golf courses lush and green. There had been some golf here as the island became a tourist and residential attraction, but this 1990s Robert Trent Jones layout was the first real course. Except for the palms and hot weather, these rolling greens hills could be part of an English countryside, and the course, at just over 7000 yards, follows the contours. It is the centerpiece of a spacious estate that gives players plenty of room to open their shoulders without fear of retribution should they fail to hit dead straight. Little white villas enhance the surroundings, one of which is owned by Ian Woosnam, who says the heart of the course is its short holes. RTJ has made some large and daunting courses, but his Royal Westmoreland course that enhances the holiday experience.
