Royal Zoute Golf Club - Championship Course
About the club
In 1909, when Harry S. Colt was just getting started in golf architecture and served as Sunningdale's secretary, he took on Zoute as his first commission on the Continent. Subsequent modifications include repair from the ravages of World War II. Nevertheless, much remains of the Colt style and layout, particularly in the bunkering. Charming houses surround this fairly flat but gently undulating links course over sandy soil. Since the winds here can be a challenge, most of the holes offer plenty of space and wide routes in. A favored destination for Belgium's upper crust (and, since the founding of the European Union, bureaucrats from Brussels), Knokke-Le Zoute, as it has long been called, is nevertheless more than just a holiday course; indeed it was until recently regular stop on the European Tour. Some of the finest clubhouse lunches in Knokke, or anywhere for that matter, are another major draw.
