Big Sky Golf and Country Club
About the club
Another of the few Canadian courses Bob Cupp has designed, and his only one in British Columbia, the Big Sky is located outside Whistler at the base of 8000-foot Mt. Currie and is open to the public. The region is known for skiing, and tends to be overshadowed by other opportunities to play in the province. The clubhouse is unremarkable, but the practice grounds are fine, and the course is notable for offering walkable golf in an alpine setting. Cupp's approach to the site becomes apparent early on at the par 5 "Purgatory" hole, which is crisscrossed by a meandering brook. Other water hazards on the course include pools alongside the fairways, though these can become a bit predictable. In any case, most players will especially appreciate the test to their skills offered by the 18th, where more water and an imposing bunker make it a challenge to complete in three shots.
