About the club

Another of Stanley Thompson's designs, the Capilano is a study in luxury and tradition, but it maintains its creator's eye for a challenge. This course, which opened in 1939, is one of the best in Canada, in particular for its setting, with spectacular views of Vancouver and a clubhouse in the Tudor style. The opening tee and eighteenth green are both in view of the clubhouse, while the rest of the course extends over a hillside, with over 100 feet of elevation between these and the lowest holes. The down-sloping 1st and 5th are short initial par 5s, but are balanced out by lengthy and challenging par 4s later on, beginning with the 2nd, the fairways of which are defined by enormous evergreen trees. At the end come a lengthy par 3, a risky par 4 and the par 5 18th that makes its way from the fairway to an elevated green.
