Nicklaus North Golf Course

About the club

This, the first of Jack Nicklaus' eponymous courses, put Whistler, a resort community a couple hours outside of Vancouver, on the map as a golf destination. The location has little in the way of relief, but it offers panoramic alpine vistas and roaring streams, and is for the most part hidden from the nearby residences. A particular standout on the front 9 is the par 5 3rd, which features a dangerous approach to a small green that is well defended by a bunker. The last few holes are a particular triumph: the 16th confronts players with Fitzsimmons Creek, and the 226-yard, par 3 17th approaches a green that extends into aptly-named Green Lake. The Nicklaus North has attracted its share of high-profile events that have been attended by such names as Stephen Ames, Fred Couples, John Daly, Ernie Els, Greg Norman, Vijay Singh and of course the Golden Bear himself.
