About the club

The Shaughnessy is the most celebrated course that British Columbian Arthur Vernon Macan designed in his fifty-plus years of activity, and it well illustrates his knack for creating a great course in the absence of dramatic topography. Having built an earlier course on the site, the Heights, Macan was already experienced with the site when he started on the Shaughnessy. The first nine holes move gently up and down, but things get interesting on the 453-yard, par 4 10th, where players have to contend with a sloping green, provides splendid vistas of the Fraser River. Being fairly level, the course is eminently walkable, and it is the putting the presents the real challenges. The greens are highly variable; that of the 200-yard 3rd even features a reverse Redan. Visit the Shaughnessy while you can; it is likely to close when the lease on the land expires in the early 2030s.
