Beijing Taiwei Golf Club
About the club
Local designer Ha Jian Biao laid out this course in 2004 amid the primeval forest of persimmon trees in the Xiang Tang Cultural Village, some ways outside Beijing. Threading its way among the slopes and inclines of the breathtaking Buddha Mountain, the Tai Wei has a timeless aura. The challenge begins right away, since the front nine offer up obscured shots off the tee, ferociously defended greens and some significant relief in the topography; this is not a walkable course. Things ease up a bit on subsequent holes, where the fairways are more ample and the chances for earning a decent score better. The uniqueness of the experience, however, is likely to distract players from being preoccupied with meeting or beating par; perhaps no course in the country is so striking. Off the course, the resort complex features a capacious clubhouse and a fine hotel with all the amenities.
