Lake Hill Golf (Haining)
About the club
Lake Hill's Dragon, a little over an hour outside Shanghai, measures 7596 yards from the furthest tips, which makes it one of the lengthiest courses in the east of China. But these dimensions shouldn't scare off less advanced players; this tournament-ready course offers a full 5 tee positions for every hole, so all can play within their respective comfort zones. The course is unabashedly contemporary in its layout, having been designed by the team of Nelson & Haworth, who also constructed the Sheshan International not far away, the home of the HSBC Championship, the top competition in Asia. Situated near the tide-prone Qiantang River, the course is massive in its scale. This means wide landing areas, vast and vertiginous sculpted greens, and above all gigantic bunkers. Patches of radiant white sand dot the landscape to create aesthetically pleasing traps. So the Dragon is not easy, but it does offer great enjoyment.
