Orient Xiamen Golf and Country Club

About the club

The Orient, a corporation based in Taiwan that manages a number of courses on the island and the mainland, brought in Ronald Fream, whose designs are found all over the world, to lay out this course as part of a golf complex located on a picturesque piece of ground overlooking the sea just outside downtown Xiamen. It is Fream's nines that comprise the championship course, which came into service in 1995. The Orient Xiamen rewards those players who can control the ball in both directions, and who are equipped to face the often stiff winds that blow over the numerous doglegs and water hazards. The fairways at least are ample, though considerable skill may be needed to keep clear of the leechee trees that tend to fringe the holes. The Orient group is known for workmanlike, if not particularly inspired, facilities, but the maintenance on the course itself is quite good.
