Pete Dye Course at Mission Hills Shenzhen
About the club
This eponymously named course by American architect Pete Dye in collaboration with the Schmidt & Curley design team is the most recent addition to the Mission Hills golf complex at Shenzhen. It was at once a hit with members and visitors after opening in 2007 on account its innovative railroad-tie bunkers and seriously slated greens. Unlike many Chinese courses, the Dye is not hemmed in by residences: this is a place for golf. Of a moderate 6900-yard length from the tips, the course nevertheless poses challenges on the approach with a supremely dense rough that more than makes up for the ample fairways. Putting is tough here, and calls for a very solid lie. Set like the neighboring Faldo on contoured and hilly ground, it enjoys a similarly pleasant forest feel. Expect to score well when the breezes die down, provided that you give the greens their due.
