With a length of nearly 7200 meters, this course, in the neighborhood of Yalong Bay's resort hotels, seems intimidating. But don't be misled into thinking that Sun Valley is just about length. The stunning setting is framed by peaks and is replete with thick flora that alternates with cactus-dotted expanses of sand on the Desert nine. Skills will be put to the test by imposing bunkers and water hazards. Straight, long drives will naturally be rewarded, but four teeing options allow for a variety of golfing experiences. The ample and sculpted greens are such that attempts at a two-putt from the unfavorable side of the hole will be a real challenge. Any failures will not be fault of the putting surfaces, though, since the upkeep is superb, even during the especially busy periods around the holiday seasons. Save some strength for the 828-yard 18th, China's longest hole, which plays uphill and upwind.
