Trans Strait Golf Club
About the club
The Trans Strait course is remarkable for its wide variety of landscapes, integrating as it does heavily wooded tracts with stretches that have a links feel. Located in the province of Fujian on the hundred-mile expanse of the Pacific that separates China from Taiwan, the Formosa Straits, the golf here is unforgettable. The front nine are threaded through native Casuarina trees, the result of erosion-control measures from a couple decades back, so a good aim is necessary to reach the shallow landing areas and to avoid the strategically positioned bunkers that protect the greens. More near to seaside, the back nine is less hemmed in than the front off the tee, but the natural flora and the water hazards, which are particularly trying on the par 3s, keep things interesting. Here the challenge is to shoot low in order to cope with the winds off the ocean.
