San Andres Golf Club
About the club
Robert Trent Jones combined forces with fellow legend Stanley Thompson of Canada and R. H. Russell in 1945 to create this layout for the private and remote San Andres Golf Club in the city of Funza some thirty miles outside the nation's capital. Measuring 7201 yards, the par 72 course nevertheless does not permit carts, though naturally there are caddies for hire. The holes vary nicely in length as they thread their way through across undulating woodlands. Golfers will count themselves lucky to stay within their handicaps, and will want to bring an extra ball or two. There are drawbacks: the surrounding residences can be seen; airplanes frequently fly by; and the play is highly subject to weather conditions. On the other hand, the clubhouse is excellent and features a staff accustomed to visitors from the US and UK, and the practice area is ample and includes greens for pitching and putting.
