Lakewood Country Club

About the club

This profile contains information gathered from publicly available sources and historical records. Due to the private nature of the club, some details may not be fully verifiable or may have changed. Lakewood Country Club began in 1905 with a nine-hole golf course featuring dirt fairways and sandy greens. The club expanded in 1908 with the acquisition of surrounding farmland, and by 1910 had grown to 18 holes with grass greens and fairways. The clubhouse was rebuilt in 1913, aligning with golf's growing popularity in the United States. The club flourished throughout the Roaring Twenties as the premier social circle for Denver's prominent figures. Major clubhouse renovations occurred throughout the 20th century, including a 1986 remodel that added a second story with mountain views. A meticulous renovation was completed in 2008 in honor of the club's centennial, incorporating a refreshed pool and fitness center. The course is described as one of only four Ross-designed courses in Colorado and merges time-honored heritage with contemporary flair. The club has a rich legacy spanning over 115 years, having hosted Denver's most cherished gatherings. Notable figures who have graced the fairways include golf legend Mildred "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias.
