Jack Nicklaus' sprawling course dominates the landscape surrounding this site midway between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine. The layout extends through a seaside development, so that some of the holes have had to be positioned a fair distance apart. Nevertheless, the setting is serene apart from the breezes coming off the sea. The sea itself is a factor on a number of holes, including the par 3 8th and 17th, which play toward it, and the 10th and 18th, which play along it. The careful routing ensures that the tougher holes are preceded and/or succeeded by easier holes. Of the par 5s, the 2nd poses no great challenge, but the 6th does. Nicklaus was relatively restrained with the bunkering and number of forced carries, so a good showing is possible even if the play is not very fast.
