Chiberta Golf Club
About the club
Designed in 1927 by Tom Simpson in the proverbially beautiful south of France, Chiberta is an outstanding links course near Biarritz that features eleven holes by the sea and the other seven inland and thus less exposed to wind. This par 70 course is a relatively short 5647 meters from the back tees. Modern technology, such as automatic sprinklers, has tamed things somewhat, but here as on any links course the wind demands attention to ball control and the short game. One commentator described Chiberta as "a terrific course going from rolling tree-lined hills out to the ocean and back again," also noting that "the hotel has one of the best lounges you’ll find"; another remarked on the rolling sandy fairways and firm greens. Though course conditions have suffered in the past few years, there restoration efforts hopefully will help Chiberta to regain its glory.
