Golf de Joyenval - Marly Course
About the club
The members-only Golf de Joyenval club, located approximately fifteen miles outside Paris to the west, was one of Robert Trent Jones' last designs. The setting is quite historical, for it borders the Marly Forest, which the French kings once used as their own private hunting preserve. As often in some parts of France, the necessary clearance to construct a new course was hard to come by, and the club was not opened until 1992. Of Joyenval's two courses here, the Marly is the obvious standout. Most of the holes are set on hillsides leading out of the woods, though some run right along the edge of the trees; throughout, it is the landscape that determines the flow of the course. The quick and superbly maintained greens deserve special mention. Course pro Antoine Ferran also deserves mention for his management of the attentive and welcoming staff.
