About the club
Harry S. Colt laid out the course at St. Germain, located not far from Paris, in the 1920s, and the club's membership has zealously guarded the traditions and feel of vintage golf. Thus Stuart Hallett, a keen student of golf course history, was enlisted to carry out some needed renovations. The site is somewhat rolling, although the course itself keeps to a fairly level path; one of Colt's strategies is evident here in the elevation of the greens where the land fails to provide any relief. The forest of St. Germain is a major factor here, in that almost every hole is defined by trees. The bunkers here are also pure Colt, being nicely sculpted, cleverly positioned and quite abundant (116 in all). Since the original clubhouse burned in the Fifties, a newer one had to be built, but thankfully it was designed to blend with its historic surroundings.
