Atlanta Athletic Club - The Highlands Course
About the club
The Highlands is the more demanding of the two outstanding courses at the historic Atlanta Athletic Club. Indeed the enjoyment lies in the demanding test that makes all golfers feel like they are competing in a PGA event. Among the standout holes are a series of par 3s that demand water carries—among them the 15th that David Toms made famous by acing on the way to his victory in the 2001 PGA Championship—and the par 4 18th, where the diminutive green is defended by a water hazard. The course has full tournament length from the back tees, which if chosen transform some par 5s into par 4s. The immaculate green-front bunkers also present a challenge. Updating after the turn of the millennium brought the bunkers and greens up to snuff and added length to the holes. Be sure to visit the associated Bobby Jones Museum for some golf history.
