There are very few golf courses in Germany that host a professional PGA European Tour tournament. The Beckenbauer Golf Course in Penning is one of this exclusive club of courses that meet the high quality standards required for this. On the 18-hole course designed by world-class golfer Bernhard Langer, one of the most renowned professional tournaments in Europe was held in 2015 and 2016 with the Porsche European Open, in 2017 the Beckenbauer Golf Course hosted the Paul Lawrie Matchplay, and the European Tour from 2013 to 2015 was three Guest with her Challenge Tour for years in a row. The best golfers in Europe praised the championship course on all occasions as a demanding test at an international level, which impressed with its technical challenge and excellent maintenance. The 18-hole par 72 course, named after football emperor Franz Beckenbauer, is located in the immediate vicinity of the Porsche Golf Course, measures 6,500 meters from the Champion Tees and is the sporty flagship of the golf resort. Planned from the start with the intention of being suitable for major championships, it is considered to be the most difficult course to play at the golf resort. The 18 lanes, generously distributed over 80 hectares, lead in two varied 9-hole loops through the floodplain landscape of the small river Rott. In terms of play, the level, easy-to-walk area is characterized by a multitude of water hazards. These occur in the form of streams, ditches, flood hollows or ponds and force precision from the player both during the drive and during the approach shots. At 13 of 18 holes, water comes into play, particularly spectacular at holes 9 and 18, where a large pond gives the two greens, separated from the water by stone walls, an island character. The up to 200 meter long par 3 lanes, strategically placed bunker tongues and interesting doglegs give the Beckenbauer Golf Course its sporty character. A real trademark of the championship course is also the first-class maintenance condition: a two-row sprinkler system guarantees imperial golfing pleasure on the hand-mown fairways and greens even in midsummer.
