North Course at The Jockey Club's Kau Sai Chau
About the club
Gary Player designed the North Course at the Jockey Club on the island of Kau Sai Chau, which is reached by ferry from a village outside Hong Kong, and his creation is the most demanding in the region. While golf in China tends to be associated with the wealthy, the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf has been, since its opening in 1995, as the name says, public, so average Chinese can enjoy some fine holes. There are two other courses here, but the North is the star; Player threaded these holes along mountainous ground, and they have a links-like feel owing to the proximity of the South China Sea. A significant part of the challenge comes from the fact that this is a walking-only course in a semi-tropical climate. The standout hole here is the par 3 14th, where the hillside green is reached through beaches and mangrove trees.
