The Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling - New Course
About the club
The Hong Kong Golf Club is a bastion of tradition, from its neo-colonial clubhouse to its trio of vintage-style courses. Situated on rolling, park-like terrain, near the boundary between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the Fanling, as the locals call it, has been the arena for the Hong Kong Open continuously since 1959; only the Augusta National has a longer history of association with a single course. The New Course debuted in 1931 and underwent renovations thirty-three years later; eight of its holes help to make up the Open's Composite Course. The fairways are for the most part tight and demand careful shots; diminutive, elevated greens put players' short game to the test. As more and more Hong Kong-area residents have taken up golf, membership in the club has become more sought after, and may require a wait of over a decade, making the Fanling one of Asia's most exclusive golfing experiences.
