About the club

Aldeen Golf Club opened July 26, 1991, as the Rockford Park District’s fifth public course. $2 million in funding for the course came from Norris and Margaret Aldeen, who wanted to build a public course with the feel of a country club. Norris and Margaret Aldeen had a vision to provide an upscale public golf facility that was affordable for working men and women, and their children. A lifelong golfer, Norris A. Aldeen was taught how to play golf by his mother on a public course. He and his wife Margaret approached the Rockford Park District in 1988 with the offer of providing the property on which the Aldeen Golf Club now exists and “seed” money to help the district build its fifth golf course. The firm of Dick Nugent and Associates was chosen from a group of well respected golf course architects and construction began in 1989. The golf course and adjoining 26 acre practice centre were opened for play on Margaret Aldeen’s birthday. The 18-hole course covers 7,131 yards. It features expertly manicured greens, tees, and fairways, 62 sand bunkers (including 3 beach bunkers), water on 12 of the 18 holes, and four sets of tees. The course’s signature hole is #8, which features an island green. Aldeen Golf Club also offers a 26-acre practice centre with a driving range, two short-game areas with sand bunkers, and a 14,000 square foot putting green.
