Aamby Valley

About the club

In a country known for its many historic courses, Aamby Valley, designed by David Hemstock in 2003, is a newcomer. Situated at an elevation of nearly three thousand feet, club selection here needs to take into account the fact that a ball travels about five percent farther in this atmosphere than it would on the coast. One nod to traditional course architecture is the way the first holes ease players into a round, so an extensive warm-up with the driver beforehand isn't a necessity; thus the 400-yard, par 5 1st can be reached in two. By the 7th, however, things get difficult, and from there on water hazards, and sometimes gusts of wind, maintain the challenge, culminating in an especially lengthy carry across a large pond on the 17th. In general, Aamby Valley has the length for championship play, and is also not very wide, so it presents a superb challenge for everyone.
