Delhi Golf Club (Lodhi)
About the club
The Delhi Golf Club originally opened in the 1930s, but Peter Thomson from Australia designed the present Lodhi course in 1978. A keen student of golf history, Thomson was careful to incorporate all of the positive aspects of the earlier layout into his own work. The club occupies a privileged site right near the India Gate, one of the country's most revered monuments. Dense woods and prickly native vegetation define the boundaries of the course, so don't be surprised to see deer or even peacocks. Like all of Thomson's courses, this one makes for a thinking man's approach to every hole. Thus the driver can stay in the bag on some of the holes, since players will probably want to use a long iron or fairway wood to maintain control. The club's reputation is reflected in the fact that it has attracted a number of Indian Open tournaments.
