Dlf Golf and Country Club
About the club
Jack Nicklaus was responsible for the first course in the mid-sized city of Gurgaon, and later his legendary rival Arnold Palmer was brought in to create the second. Since the site he was given to work with lacked vegetation, over a hundred thousand trees were planted. Palmer's course at DLF Golf & Country Club seems to be the more demanding of the two, and is a fine illustration of his philosophy that, "I try to give the player a course where good shots are rewarded. The course reproaches you for the bad ones...you just have to try harder." The DLF course according lacks the kind of accommodations that Nicklaus builds into his courses for the average golfer; there simply are no easy, risk-free approaches to the targets. Not surprisingly, championships are played at DLF on a regular basis, from the eponymous DLF Masters to the Indian Women's Open.
