Jack Nicklaus' design here at the luxury mountain resort of Taman Dayu was ranked fiftieth best in the world among non-American courses in a survey by Golf Digest in 2005, and it is no wonder, since it combines championship length with options for all players to enjoy themselves. In typical Nicklaus fashion, this course follows the lay of the land, in this case the contoured wooded hills, ravines, creeks and brooks in the shadow of Mount Welirang, in order to delight the eyes and test the skills of those fortunate enough to play it. A round at Taman Dayu is notable for the calm and quiet and for the exquisite maintenance, and the experience is enhanced further by the welcoming and attentive staff that runs the attractive clubhouse. The site, in East Java an hour outside Surabaya, may be remote, but the effort will be amply rewarded.
