Rosses Point, Ireland
County Sligo Golf Club
About the club
Pioneering British architect Harry S. Colt created the first course at County Sligo, aka Rosses Point, in 1931, and it has earned a reputation as one of the top links in Ireland. Significant refurbishment in 2008 by Martin Hawtree has been well received. Many connoisseurs have made it a point to play here, among them Henry Cotton, who named the 4th as one of the best short par 3s he ever played, and Tom Watson and Christy O'Connor Sr., both of whom singled out the par 4 17th for praise. The fairways on the Championship course are relatively broad, which is a great help to players contending with the winds. Because this is an older course, there are a couple blind shots, but for the most part the dangers that lurk, whether they be brush, rough or bunkering, are out in the open. The lovely landscape and wildlife are an added bonus.
