About the club
Design pioneers Alister MacKenzie and Tom Morris both had a hand in designing the Old Course at the Lahinch Golf Club. MacKenzie hoped that the Old would be considered "the finest and most popular course that I or I believe anyone else ever constructed," and Morris declared that his handiwork represented "as fine a natural course as it has ever been my good fortune to play over." Various other architects, among them Martin Hawtree, have fine-tuned the course over the years, and it now measures a respectable, though not enormous, 6355 yards, enough to maintain its long association with Irish amateur tournaments. Among the standout holes are a pair of Ireland's most celebrated, the 4th ("Klondyke") and 5th ("Dell"), which are little changed since Morris first created them. Add to the historic atmosphere the picturesque scenery, and it is easy to see why this links is legendary in Irish golf.
