About the club
American legend Jack Nicklaus worked together with Jeff Howes of Canada to create the layout on the nicely wooded grounds of the Mount Juliet Golf & Spa Hotel in 1991. Like most of Nicklaus' work, this course looks like something out of the Sunshine State, in particular the copious water hazards and the American-style bunkers, which break up the fairways without keeping the ball out of play. Below-average to above-average golfers will find accommodation with a wide range of tees, though the length is fairly formidable off the back. The opening day match saw Nicklaus square off against the elder Christy O'Connor, in which the latter refused an offer of some help with his round and went on to win the competition. Mount Juliet continues to host tournament play, including the Irish Open (1993-1995) and the American Express Championship (2002, 2004).
