Portsalon Golf Club
About the club
Somewhat overshadowed in the northern part of Ireland by Royal County Down and Portrush, the Portsalon Golf Club offers a venerable and excellent links course tucked into a fine location not far from Ulster between hills and the ocean. Golf has been played here for a long time, and at some point the course formerly par 68 course was lengthened, particularly on the back nine, by Pat Ruddy to its present status as a 6500-meter par 72. As with all links, there are some surprising dips and humps to be expected, and some tricky breezes off the ocean. In terms of other hazards, the bunkers are fairly abundant but not overly imposing, and the rough is kept fairly short, at least at the edges. So all in all the Porsalon course makes for some pleasurable resort golf, and is well worth the effort it takes to reach the club.
