About the club
An original course was laid out at Tralee in the 1800s, but today's Barrow Course is the work of Arnold Palmer in 1984, near the beginning of his career as a golf architect. Upon beholding the site, Palmer declared, "I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course," and upon completing his work opined that "I may have designed the first nine but surely God put down the back nine." Native-sounding nicknames have been given to the holes, such as Crosty, Cuilin, Mucklough and Ryan's Daughter, the last from a movie that was filmed in the area. The scenery is absolutely stupendous here: there are bays, spits of land jutting into the sea, nature preserves and historic sites in every direction, including the remains of a castle from the 1300s next to the green on the third hole.
