Youghal Golf Club

About the club

Golf in Youghal can be traced back to before 1897 when “There is no regular club in Youghal, but a course has been laid out by the residents and is free to all comers. It stretches along the sea shore on a soil eminently suitable for the game”,according to the Sportsman’s Holiday Guide, 1897. The Irish Times on the 22nd October, 1898, records “A meeting was held in the Town Hall, Youghal, last Thursday evening for the purpose of forming a golf club, suitable links having been found close to the railway station and overlooking Youghal Bay. In the absence of the Earl of Shannon, the chair was taken by Mr. H. F. Allen, J. P., and a committee was appointed to carry out the objects of the club. The Rt. Hon. Earl of Shannon was appointed President. His Excellency, Sir Henry Blake, Vice President, Mr. S. Sealy Allen, Hon. Secretary, and Mr. A. B. Gravey, Hon. Treasurer”.
