Golf Club Castelconturbia
About the club
Castelconturbia, built in 1898 in the shadow of a castle from the 1600s near where the Ticino River meets Lake Maggiore, is one of Italy's earliest courses and the very first in the Piedmont region. Today's layout, however, is the work of legendary American golf architect Robert Trent Jones from 1987, and he has given it a contemporary American feel. Castelconturbia was almost at once hailed as one of the country's finest courses, and it attracted the Italian Open in 1991 and again in 1998, when Constantino Rocca and Jose Mafia Olazabal tied with a score that set a new record for the club. And though of tournament length, Jones as usual made sure that his course would offer a range of teeing options to accommodate golfers at any skill level. The full-service facilities include areas to work on the short game and a driving range.
